Questions you may have?
So, what is Makaton? -
Makaton is a language programme that gives everyone a helping hand to talk.
It is a language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall and organisation of language and expression. The Makaton language programme has been used with individuals who have cognitive impairments, autism, Down syndrome, specific language impairment, multi-sensory impairment and acquired neurological disorders that have negatively affected the ability to communicate, including stroke patients.
How can the training be done during the COVID pandemic?
Currently, all levels of Makaton training are being done online via use of the Zoom meeting application. You apply for the dates as normal, and invitations are sent out by myself prior to the start of the courses.
About Norfolk Makaton Tuition? -
Norfolk Makaton Tuition is an educational training company. My vision is to work in partnership with parents, carers, and workers who will find the use of Makaton beneficial in their everyday life or workplace. This can be all aspects of education, retail, customer services....the list is endless.
My aim is to teach a range of Makaton courses to a broad range of people in the East Anglia region (covering Norfolk, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire).

Where are the courses held? -
At the moment, wherever you can set up for a Zoom meeting!
But during 'normal' times the courses can be taken in any room large enough to fit all of the learners in provided there is space to move around. All course material is provided, and I have my own projector and screen if these facilities are not available.
How many can you teach? -
Between 6 and 15 learners at a time. Due to the interactive nature of the learning, fewer than 6 doesn't really work.
Covid 19 - Due to the current situation all training will be run online over the zoom platform. This limits numbers to a maximum of 11 people so everyone can be clearly seen while signing
Is it just for businesses or education? Can families be taught Makaton? -
Of course families can also be taught Makaton. This is especially useful for communication with family members with learning difficulties and covers all generations of learners.
